Mad About 2024

Write what you love. Love what you write.

The S.R.A.

The SRA.. Everyone in TISA would know what it is. Everyone in TISA would’ve at least stepped a foot in it. (Except maybe not the primary kids)

But do they know what it actually stands for?? I stop typing and I look up from my laptop. “You, you, and you..!” I pick the first 3 people I see. “Do you know what the SRA stands for?” I got 3 different answers:

  • “I dunno”
  • “Student Recreation Area”
  • “…”

My reply: “Oh.. !” Yes, to be honest, I didn’t know, either. So to make see if my friend got it right, I searched the TISA website for the three letters: S.R.A. After like, 10 minutes of that, I found it: Secondary Recreation Area. And yes, it’s an area of relaxation 🙂

Now, enough of that. Let me tell you why I’m talking about the SRA. Well, when I first came to TISA, I didn’t have any friends. I mean, of course, you wouldn’t have any friends in a school that you’ve never been to before. But I didn’t have anyone to talk to for the first 2 or 3 weeks, thanks to my very-shy-at-first personality. Fortunately, I did have some people who were generous enough to let me be with them. Just as an invisible-person-tagging-along. They always used to sit in the SRA. And I would be there just because I didn’t want to be alone. Every lunchtime back then was a nightmare. My brain would be telling my mouth to talk to them, to say something. But my mouth wouldn’t do as it’s told. By the time I think of the right thing to say and my mouth is ready to finally open up, they would be done with their lunch already and would be heading to class.

And then once, some of my other classmates offered me to sit with them outside. And I was like, why not? So that’s when my life of being the invisible-person-tagging-along finally was finally over. I actually started to talk to my classmates and made actual friends. And now, I am really loud. Just.. not in class, or when I’m with people that I’m not really close with. When I’m with a couple of my closest friends, I either laugh, sing, talk, or do whatever, nonstop. Or if everyone’s really annoyed and they ignore me, sometimes I just blabber on to myself. (I know this might sound weird, but I really can be loud) However this is only when I’m with them. I still can’t show my “real” personality to others….

Okay, I know. This blog ended really off topic – from talking about the SRA to umm.. just talking about me, I guess?? Well thanks anyway for reading, even though it’s not a very awesome-and-on-topic-blog…

Haha! when I first came here I had no idea what Mr Caskie meant when he said go to the SRA. I wanted around the first floor forever.

Also the stuff about how people feel on their first day/weeks of school is bang on – you should be a student ambassador for new kids, I think you’d be great with the shy newbies.
