TISA’s (not-so) Amazing Lunch

Lunch is such an important part of the day, especially for students. After a tiring morning of school with work, and work, and more work, I think that we can all agree that we deserve a quality lunch. Yep, lunch. Lunch is a meal eaten in the middle of the day, that is typically lighter than a dinner, however, it really has to be enjoyed. I feel like lunch is too rushed and has to be improved by TISA. Now, think of lunch as a balance scale- a piece of equipment used in the kitchen. Being social, and the atmosphere on one side, and the quality of the food on the other. Unfortunately, I feel like the TISA cafeteria is like a farm compared to other schools around the world.

The cafeteria is like a multi-purpose hall in TISA, a lunch hall at 11:40, and a community gathering place at 9:35 on a Thursday. That place is so tiny in comparison to other schools, that fails to hold only 350 kids (the entire secondary school all at once), as we all have lunch at the same time. I mean come on, kids have to SHARE seats in order to simply be able to chat with their friends and are forced to sit in the SRAA. This makes the lunch hall as loud as a theme park where everyone has to shout over each other. I think that music should be played throughout lunch to have more of an atmosphere. To me- unlike some other people, lunch is a time to chat with my friends, and really enjoy the food. Every day, I see the boys in my grade eat for like 5 mins as fast as they can and then storming off like a pack of cheetahs off towards the field as we do not have enough time. We are in school for 7 hrs and 5 mins every day, so I think that we should be able to have an extra 20 mins to enjoy food as well as a recess. There have been many complaints about the hall which I agree with including more microwaves, and ticket machines as we spend half our time just standing there waiting, the wobbly chairs and tables, and the amount of space.

Now, let’s talk about the actual food. There is barely any choice at all!! Everyone gets bright- yellow mashed potatoes or deep fried oil slapped onto their plates. Now, when I went on a trip to Poland last year their cafeteria was like a shop, there were all varieties! There was a sushi bar, smoothie bar, ice cream, good pizza, a drink stand and everything- this is like heaven compared to TISA lunch. Because it is an international school, the chefs should balance out the types of foods rather than just Azeri and pasta. I mean come on look at the endless options!- French, Italian, Mexican, American, Chinese! If TISA served this lunch almost no one would bring packed lunch.

The desserts in the cafeteria are usually ok, but quite  limited, so when Mr Carlos comes out with his tray of doughnuts, the kids go crazy- like a bunch of ducks finally being fed after 3 days.

Overall, I think that the school should really balance out the lunch like a weighing scale. They should really improve the quality of the food as well as the atmosphere of the area.

I think that the TISA lunch is very rarely satisfying but I agree that the food quality is bad.

To be honest I’m just glad to even eat food at lunch because most of the time I’m really hungry at that time. I do agree that the food isn’t the best but there are actually some good food now in the school (aka the sweet and sour chicken).

I agree with you that the canteen could really improve the quality of their food, Nice Post!

I like how you separated your post into different sections like Food and ATMOSPHERE.

Is the food really that bad? Talk about variety, there’s a new combination of food every day, and while some of it may be recurring, no day is like the last in terms of a menu. There are some really good options such as the curry, the dolma, and the burritos, but most of it does come down to personal preference. I am interested to see what constitutes as good school lunch food, if most of the students in the comments say that TISA’s lunch is is bad.
